Clips and tracks

Build an edit with clips, trim points, and video or audio tracks.

A shot becomes a clip when you add it to the timeline. The clip points back to the canvas media, so trimming or moving it changes the edit without changing the source take.

Build the sequence

  • Drag a shot from the canvas onto a video track. Drag audio onto an audio track.
  • Move a clip left or right to change its timing. With snapping enabled, clips align to the playhead, edit points, and nearby clips.
  • Drag either edge to set the in or out point. Press B to split a selected clip at the playhead.
  • Add video or audio tracks from the timeline settings menu when the sequence needs another layer.

Press S to toggle snapping. For frame-level adjustments, press , or . to nudge selected clips one frame; add Shift to move five frames.

Delete removes a clip and leaves the timing gap. Ripple Delete closes the gap by moving the later clips. Neither action deletes the source shot from the canvas.

If you need to find the source again, right-click the clip and choose Reveal in Canvas. A clip created only on the timeline offers Create on Canvas instead.
